As a photographer, it’s always important to have a solid lineup of go-to poses up your sleeve, and this is especially the case for boudoir photography. Your go-to poses will enable you to build trust with your client, capturing stunning images for your portfolio in the process. Before you start scrambling to find new posing ideas, here are five classic boudoir photography poses that every photographer needs on their list.
Something on the side
This popular boudoir pose pulls double duty, helping you highlight those swerves and curves while also being a great option for clients that may be a little self-conscious.
To master this photography pose, ask your subject to lie on their side with one hand under their head. Then, place their other hand on their hip and adjust their legs. This is also an easy pose to transition them to some shots on their belly – another stunning posing idea, as it accentuates their curves without showing too much.
Take a seat
Another classic boudoir photography pose: simply sitting!
Have your client sit on a chair or bed and position their body in a way that highlights their best features.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different angles and get a few shots with both eye contact as well as some where your subject is looking away.
Another great option is to take some shots from the back, with the subject wistfully looking over their shoulder.
On your knees
The kneeling photography pose is another A+ way to show off your subject’s best assets. Ask them to kneel on a chair or bed, or have them raise their hands up towards their hair to extend the torso and create more angles. Don’t be afraid to experiment with lighting and accessories to create a more dramatic effect.
The standing ovation
For that natural (and super flattering) shot, simply standing can be a game-changer.
Ask them to stand in the way that makes them feel most comfortable and be sure to adjust their hands and legs for an ultra-natural look.
This is another pose where you can really make the lighting work for you!
Experiment with different angles and try some standing over-the-shoulder shots to add a bit of mystery.
Up against the wall
This is one of our faves!
Have them take a wide stance and press against the wall to exaggerate the arch on their back and show off those stems.
It’s also a smart choice for clients that may be first-time boudoir subjects, as they don’t have to show off too much skin or attempt a pose that may feel uncomfortable.
